Following the success of the three national youth fora on the European Union held in Cork in April 2006 and in Dublin Castle in April and November 2005, the National Forum On Europe and the National Youth Council of Ireland are teaming up to organise another event. It will be held in the Southern Hotel, Sligo on Saturday 13 May 2006 on the theme "Ireland, the European Union and the Wider World".
As a consequence of the 'no' votes in referenda on the European Constitution in both France and the Netherlands, the European Council has called for a 'period of reflection'. As part of the National Forum on Europe's and the National Youth Council of Ireland's contribution within this period of reflection we are asking the young people of Ireland to let their views be known. The conference is aimed at all young people in the 16-25 year age group. It is a valuable opportunity for young people to express their views in the knowledge that these views will feed directly into a wider dialogue on the Future of the European Union.
The forum will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday May 13th in the Southern Hotel, Sligo. The findings of the one-day conference will be incorporated into the results of the wider debate taking place within the Forum at national level.
Lunch is included and travel and some other costs will be reimbursed. Places may be limited and participants will be selected on criteria which will ensure a good spread across age groups, gender, geographical areas etc. Please note that participants under 18 years of age will need to submit a completed parental consent form along with their application. The closing date for applications is Monday, May 8th 2006. Contact details:
