The Treaty of Lisbon was signed by leaders of the twenty-seven Member States in Lisbon on 13 December 2007.
EU leaders in June 2007 had mandated an Intergovernmental conference (IGC) to draft the text of the Treaty, following a two year "period of reflection".
On April 15th 2008, the Council of the European Union published a consolidated text version of the Treaty on European Union and theTreaty on the Functioning of the European Union as amended by the Treaty of Lisbon.
The Bill to amend the Constitution to allow for ratification of the Treaty has been through the Oireachtas.
A referendum on the Treaty is to be held on June 12th 2008. Ireland is the only country to put the Treaty to a referendum. Other Member States have opted to ratify through their respective parliaments.
The National Forum On Europe has been providing a key arena for debate on the issues, organising several plenary debates for Forum Members as well as a series of public information meetings around the country in the first half of 2008.
Voices from the public meetings can accessed on the Forum's YouTube Channel.
